The NHL plans to add a Texas-based franchise by the 2029-30 season and is in discussions for a 34th team, potentially in Phoenix or Atlanta, according to Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. While concerns about talent dilution arise with the addition of two teams, Daly believes the current player supply will not be an issue. The NHL, currently tied with the NFL at 32 teams, aims to become the largest league in North America. The league is open to staggered expansion timelines, similar to previous expansions in Las Vegas and Seattle.
