Joe Sakic will continue as the general manager of the Colorado Avalanche indefinitely, alongside his role as president of hockey operations, following Chris MacFarland’s departure to the Nashville Predators. Sakic, who built the Avalanche team that won the 2022 Stanley Cup, made significant offseason moves, including signing defenseman Cale Makar to a record eight-year, $163.2 million extension. The Avalanche, fresh off a Presidents’ Trophy-winning season, welcomed new forward Jaden Schwartz in a charity golf event ahead of training camp. Schwartz expressed excitement about joining a consistently competitive team.
