A recent San Jose Sharks draft pick, Yaroslav Korostelyov, has terminated his contract with KHL’s SKA St. Petersburg to join the Sharks for the 2026-27 season. Drafted in the seventh round, Korostelyov has limited professional experience, having only played one game at that level and primarily competing in Russia’s junior leagues last season. Given his unproven status, he is expected to play for the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder rather than the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. This decision is surprising, as goaltenders typically require more time to develop than skaters.
