The Florida Panthers have signed goaltender Akira Schmid to a two-year, $4MM contract, concluding the offseason’s arbitration cases. Schmid, 26, will serve as the backup to Jacob Markstrom after a season with the Vegas Golden Knights, where he posted a 16-10-6 record. With Markstrom’s recent struggles and age concerns, Schmid could see more playing time if Markstrom falters early in the 2026-27 season.
