Hockey Canada announced it will not participate in the 2026 Spengler Cup, marking the first absence since 1983. The agreement with the organizing committee expired after the 2025 tournament, and a new deal could not be finalized. Team Canada has been dominant in the event, winning 13 titles since 1992. Additionally, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is taking a “wait and see” approach regarding his contract extension, while the Rangers will not retain Director of Player Development Jed Ortmeyer.
