Calgary Flames rookie Matvei Gridin chose to participate in the 2026 AHL All-Star Challenge in Rockford, Illinois, instead of taking a traditional vacation during the Olympic break. The 19-year-old forward earned his All-Star nod after a strong first half with the Calgary Wranglers, where he scored 28 points in 34 games. Gridin also made his mark in the NHL with six points in 13 games, including his first multi-point performance before the break. His participation reflects the Flames’ commitment to his development as they prepare for the season’s final stretch.
