The Detroit Red Wings have extended defenseman Ben Chiarot’s contract for three years at an average annual value of $3.85 million. This season, the 34-year-old has tallied four goals and seven assists in 54 games, but his defensive performance has been subpar, ranking last among NHL defensemen in expected defensive goals above replacement. Chiarot, now in his fourth season with the Red Wings, has a longer contract only surpassed by Moritz Seider. Over his 13-year NHL career, he has also played for the Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, and Florida Panthers.
