The Boston Celtics’ ownership group has agreed to sell the franchise for $6.1 billion to Bill Chisholm of Symphony Technology Group, pending NBA approval. Chisholm, a lifelong Celtics fan, plans to keep current leadership in place and focus on winning championships. The sale sets a record for the most expensive North American sports franchise sold, surpassing previous deals for NFL and NBA teams. The new ownership group will include Sixth Street and Rob Hale, among others. Multiple potential buyers were involved in the thorough sale process before Chisholm’s group emerged as the winning bidder.
