Observations from Yankees spring training on Friday:
Infield work
During spring training, Ryan McMahon played shortstop and Cody Bellinger was at first base as the Yankees explore their versatility. Bellinger is comfortable at first, and while McMahon showed promise at shortstop, he was slightly slow on a relay play. McMahon is currently struggling offensively, going hitless in his last 11 at-bats. Boone expressed a need for relievers to secure bullpen spots, with newcomer Yovanny Cruz hitting 100 mph.
Saturday’s schedule
Max Fried makes another start, as the Yankees host the Phillies at Steinbrenner Field at 1:05 p.m.
