The Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned winger Ville Koivunen to their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, following a period of limited NHL play where he was a healthy scratch in two of the last three games. Acquired in the 2024 Jake Guentzel trade, Koivunen had a strong AHL performance last season but has struggled this season, recording only five points in 27 NHL games. This move allows him to gain more playing time and rebuild confidence in his scoring abilities. Koivunen, ranked as Pittsburgh’s No. 2 prospect, aims to develop further for a future NHL role.
