Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers was placed on the injured list due to an aggravation of his surgically repaired right ankle, caused by a mishap in the shower. Manager Dave Roberts initially labeled Freeman as “day to day,” but he had not played since March 29. The Dodgers were able to backdate his IL stint to March 31. Teams have the option to retroactively credit players with a few days of banked IL time if they haven’t played in a game during that period. Freeman had initially suffered an ankle injury in September, missed the final three regular season games, but played through it in the playoffs to win the World Series MVP. He underwent surgery on the ankle in December.
