Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks have reached a contract buyout agreement, making him a free agent after clearing waivers. Thompson had joined the Mavericks in the 2024 offseason through a three-year, $50 million sign-and-trade from the Golden State Warriors. Following the trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025 and injuries to Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, the Mavericks shifted from Finals contenders to a rebuilding team centered around Thompson. He was under a $17.46 million contract for the 2026-27 season.
