The San Francisco 49ers are set to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, but will be without defensive end Sam Okuayinonu, who suffered a broken foot, described by head coach Kyle Shanahan as a “bad injury.” Okuayinonu has been placed on Injured Reserve and will undergo surgery, potentially sidelining him for a significant part of the season. To fill the void, the team signed Khalid Kareem to the practice squad. Okuayinonu had a strong previous season, recording 39 tackles and three sacks.
