Ian Rapoport recently stated that Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa will be on a “short leash” if named the starter, dependent on the health of QB Michael Penix Jr. Tagovailoa’s recent struggles in the preseason have raised questions about his position, with hopes that Penix could return to start. Drafted fifth overall by the Dolphins in 2020, Tagovailoa signed a one-year deal with the Falcons after being released by Miami. In 2025, he played 14 games, completing 67.7% of his passes for 2,660 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.
