The Buss family is selling their remaining ownership stakes in the Los Angeles Lakers to businessman Josh Kushner and former Disney CEO Bob Iger, marking the end of their family’s ownership since 1979. Jeanie Buss, the franchise’s Governor since her father’s death in 2013, did not vote for the sale alongside her siblings, who collectively own 18% of the team. The new majority owners will acquire about 65% of the Lakers, bringing their total ownership to around 83%. The transaction, valued at $12.5 billion, is pending approval from the NBA’s Board of Governors.
