“Boston is dead! Boston is dead !”
The winning streak ended in 1967, but the Boston Celtics rebounded in 1968 under player-coach Bill Russell, who led a roster featuring veterans like Bailey Howell and Wayne Embry. The Celtics finished the regular season at 54-28, facing challenges in the playoffs, including losing Game 3 to the Pistons before winning the series. They then faced the 76ers, taking Game 1 after a pause for mourning Dr. King’s assassination, but ultimately lost the series. This season marked a pivotal moment in Boston’s storied history as they sought to reclaim their dominance in the league.
