The Rays have officially signed infielder Jorge Mateo and recalled right-hander Jesse Scholtens, optioning infielder Carson Williams and right-hander Michael Grove to Triple-A Durham to make room. To accommodate Mateo on the 40-man roster, righty Trevor Martin has been designated for assignment. Martin, who has pitched 11 1/3 innings in the majors this season, was ranked the #40 prospect in the Rays’ system by FanGraphs. He will be placed on waivers, and given his performance and options, it’s likely he will be claimed.
