Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels issued a cease-and-desist letter to LSU regarding the use of his name, image, and likeness after the school allowed cornerback D.J. Pickett to wear his former number, No. 5. Daniels expressed gratitude for his time at LSU and emphasized his focus on NFL training camp while hoping for a private resolution to the issue. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2023 and was the NFL Rookie of the Year in 2024, but faced challenges in 2025 due to injuries. LSU’s only retired number is Billy Cannon’s No. 20, with no player having worn No. 9 since Joe Burrow’s departure in 2019.
