Kodai Senga of the New York Mets stepped up as closer in their 8-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves after Devin Williams was placed on the injured list with a shoulder strain. Williams, who has a 4.66 ERA and 16 saves this season, is expected to return in a few weeks. Senga, who had struggled as a starter, embraced his new role and successfully pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Interim manager Andy Green noted that the closer’s role will be fluid as the team adjusts after trading several veterans at the deadline.
