The New York Mets plan to increase Jorge Polanco’s at-bats following Juan Soto’s left calf strain. Interim manager Andy Green indicated that Polanco will primarily serve as the designated hitter and may also play first base. Despite being brought in to replace Pete Alonso, Polanco has struggled, hitting just .156 with a .441 OPS this season. Meanwhile, rookie A.J. Ewing is also facing challenges, having struck out frequently and struggling at the plate.
