Infielder Jonathan Ornelas is opting out of his minor league deal with the Yankees and will become a free agent if not added to the MLB roster. After signing a non-roster deal last November, he has performed well at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting .299/.362/.480 with nine homers. Ornelas, known for his glove and versatility, had a prior Triple-A batting line of .233/.331/.331 and played 32 MLB games with limited success. With the Yankees exploring other infield options, including José Caballero and Anthony Volpe, Ornelas is likely to seek new opportunities.
