The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Brett Berard to a one-year, two-way deal for the 2026-27 season, after acquiring him from the New York Rangers in exchange for defensive prospect William Trudeau. Berard will earn $850K in the NHL and $175K in the AHL, with his AHL salary more than doubling from his previous contract. After a promising start to his career, Berard’s production declined last season, and he is expected to start with the AHL’s Laval Rocket, though he may compete for a fourth-line NHL role. In his time with the Rangers, he scored four goals and 10 points in 35 NHL games, but struggled in the 2025-26 season, failing to register points in 13 games.
