The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to extend defenseman Troy Stecher with a two-year, $2.7MM contract after trading Brandon Carlo to the St. Louis Blues. Stecher, who was acquired as a waiver claim from the Edmonton Oilers, showed significant value last season, scoring three goals and 14 points in 58 games. His extension comes as the team seeks reliable depth on defense amid injury concerns, potentially pairing him with Emil Andrae on the bottom-pairing. Stecher had expressed a desire to remain in Toronto, making this move unsurprising.
