The Dallas Mavericks selected Michigan forward Morez Johnson Jr. with the No. 9 overall pick in the NBA Draft, just a day after hiring Dusty May as their new head coach. May previously coached Johnson at Michigan, where they won a national championship together. Johnson averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds last season and joins a Mavericks team looking to rebound from a disappointing 26-56 record last year. Together with reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg, Johnson aims to help restore the franchise’s prominence in the Western Conference.
