The Atlanta Braves have released catcher Maverick Handley, who was on optional assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett, to make room for Hurston Waldrep, recently reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Waldrep, a 2023 first-round pick, is on a rehab assignment after elbow surgery and is expected to join the rotation soon. The Braves have managed pitching injuries well, with standout performances from Chris Sale and Bryce Elder. Handley, who spent his career in the Baltimore organization, is now a free agent after hitting the Triple-A injured list last week.
