The NBA’s Board of Governors has implemented new anti-tanking rules, expanding the draft lottery to 16 teams and introducing a “relegation zone” for the bottom three teams, reducing their chances for the top pick. The revised “3-2-1 lottery” system diminishes the incentive to lose, with the odds for the worst teams dropping significantly. The Golden State Warriors, who drafted 11th this year, aim to avoid the lottery in upcoming seasons. These rules will remain until 2029, subject to renegotiation of the collective bargaining agreement.
