Toronto Blue Jays right-hander José Berríos is set for elbow surgery on Wednesday to address a stress fracture, with concerns about potential ligament damage. Blue Jays manager John Schneider indicated that the extent of the recovery time will depend on the findings during the procedure, which could range from a couple of months to as much as 12-18 months. Berríos has not pitched in the majors this season and struggled with a 10.67 ERA in minor-league rehab starts. The Blue Jays’ rotation is also missing injured starters Shane Bieber, Cody Ponce, and Max Scherzer.
