The Athletics will designate catcher Austin Wynns for assignment as Shea Langeliers returns from the paternity list. Wynns, who has struggled offensively with a .167 average in 36 games for the A’s, was picked up last June after being DFA’d by the Reds. With over five years in the majors, he may attract interest from other teams despite his poor hitting, thanks to his defensive skills and experience. If he clears waivers, Wynns can opt for free agency while retaining his $1.1MM salary.
