Penner Sports Group, owned by the Penner family who also owns the NFL’s Denver Broncos, has acquired a 40% minority stake in the Colorado Rockies, becoming the largest minority stakeholder under the Monfort family. While the sale price is estimated at around $672 million, the team stated that this investment will help eliminate all outstanding debt and potentially allow for future investments in the team. The Rockies, struggling with seven consecutive losing seasons and a recent record of 119 losses, have started the current season 6-7. With a payroll of $117 million, they rank 21st in the league, indicating limited financial flexibility moving forward.
