Bruce Froemming, a major league umpire for 37 years who officiated the third-most games in history and a record 11 no-hitters, passed away at 86 after a fall at his home in Wisconsin led to fatal brain bleeding. He began umpiring in 1958 and joined the National League in 1971, retiring in 2007 with 5,163 games officiated. Froemming also worked five World Series and served as a special assistant to MLB’s umpiring vice president post-retirement. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a sister, a half-brother, and two grandchildren.
