The Oakland Athletics have hired Mark McGwire as a special assistant in their player development department, marking his return to the organization that inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2019. A former star player for the A’s, McGwire won the Rookie of the Year award in 1987 and led the team to three consecutive pennants and a World Series title. Despite his on-field success, including a franchise home run record, his legacy is marred by his admission of steroid use, preventing his induction into the Hall of Fame. In this new role, he will leverage his extensive hitting knowledge without the demands of a full-time coaching position.
