The New Jersey Devils are nearing a trade for winger Ondřej Palát, who is being held out of tonight’s game against the Jets for “roster-related reasons.” The team has sought to offload Palát’s $6MM cap hit since last summer, but finding a suitable trade partner has been challenging due to his no-trade clause. General manager Tom Fitzgerald has reportedly identified a team willing to assume most of his contract, which expires after next season. Palát, 34, signed a five-year, $30MM deal in 2022 but has struggled to replicate his previous scoring success with the Devils.
