The Mets designated lefty reliever Richard Lovelady for assignment to make room for newly acquired utility player Vidal Bruján from Minnesota. Lovelady, who signed a split contract worth $1MM in the majors and $350K in the minors, is out of options and could elect free agency if outrighted. Last season, he struggled with an 11.32 ERA in 11 2/3 MLB innings but had a strong minor league performance with a 1.66 ERA in 38 innings. The Mets hope he clears waivers to remain as a depth option behind southpaws A.J. Minter and Brooks Raley.
