Wilbur Wood, the legendary left-handed pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, passed away at 84. Notably recognized for his knuckleball, Wood achieved remarkable success from 1971 to 1975, averaging over 336 innings per season, leading the majors in starts, and accumulating a 51.7 career WAR with the White Sox. His career was abruptly halted by a severe knee injury in 1976, and despite his impressive statistics, he never garnered significant Hall of Fame support. After retiring in 1979, Wood was later honored as a member of the White Sox’s All-Century Team.
