Venus Williams made history at the Australian Open by becoming the oldest player to compete in singles at age 45, following a wild-card entry. Despite leading 4-0 in the third set, she lost to Olga Danilovic 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4, after a six-game rally from her opponent. Williams, who is ranked No. 576 and entered the tournament on a five-match losing streak, has never won the Australian Open, finishing as a finalist in 2003 and 2017. Recently married, she first competed in the event in 1998, reaching the quarterfinals in her fourth Grand Slam.
