All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman has signed a five-year, $175 million contract with the Chicago Cubs, pending a physical and including a no-trade clause. Previously with the Boston Red Sox, Bregman hit .273 with 18 homers last season and earned $40 million in one year. The Cubs, who finished second in the NL Central and reached the playoffs, may need to adjust their infield setup following Bregman’s arrival. This move follows the Cubs’ recent trade for right-hander Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins.
