The Boston Red Sox have acquired power-hitting first baseman Willson Contreras from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for right-hander Hunter Dobbins and minor-league pitchers Yhoiker Fajardo and Blake Aita, along with receiving $8 million to offset Contreras’ salary. Contreras, a three-time All-Star who hit .257 with 20 home runs and 80 RBI last season, has two years remaining on his contract. This marks the second trade between the two teams this offseason, following the acquisition of pitcher Sonny Gray by the Red Sox. Contreras had previously expressed commitment to the Cardinals amid their rebuild after a disappointing season.
