The Chicago White Sox have signed Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami to a $34 million, two-year deal, enhancing their young lineup after finishing last in the AL Central with a 60-102 record. Murakami, a two-time Central League MVP, brings a career average of .270 with 246 homers and 647 RBIs, despite an injury-shortened 2023 season. The contract includes a $1 million signing bonus, escalating salary provisions based on awards, and a posting fee of $6.575 million to his former team, Yakult. He will also receive a team interpreter and reimbursement for flights between Japan and the U.S.
