CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs signed veteran right-hander Phil Maton to a two-year deal, including a club option, pending a physical. Maton, who had a 2.79 ERA and five saves last season, joins a team that recently made the playoffs, while the Cubs also offered contracts to pitchers Justin Steele and Javier Assad and non-tendered catcher Reese McGuire and right-hander Eli Morgan.
