In the opening match of Asia Cup 2025, Afghanistan’s Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai set a new record for the highest fifth-wicket partnership in T20 Asia Cup history by adding 82 runs, surpassing the previous mark held by Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik. Atal scored an unbeaten 73 off 52 balls with six fours and three sixes, while Omarzai made a quick 53 off 21 balls with five sixes and two boundaries, helping Afghanistan reach a total of 188/6 in 20 overs. Mohammad Nabi also contributed with 33 runs to stabilize the innings, leading Afghanistan to a commanding win over Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi.
