The Shanghai Dragons, the newest team in the KHL, rebranded from Kunlun Red Star after eight seasons, aiming for their first playoff appearance since 2016. With a roster featuring NHL ties, including former Devils players Nikita Popugaev and Nick Merkley, and led by head coach Gerard Gallant, the team plans to eventually relocate home games to China while currently playing in St. Petersburg, Russia.
