The BCCI has introduced a new rule allowing like-for-like replacements in multi-day games for players sustaining serious injuries, following instances in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The replacement must be of the same type of player, approved by the match referee after consultation with doctors and umpires, with the injured player unable to return to the match. This rule applies only to red-ball cricket in domestic competitions, alongside penalties for deliberate short runs and batters retiring without injury or illness, with its potential extension to international cricket still undecided.
