The Baltimore Orioles have selected the contract of catcher Chadwick Tromp due to injuries within their catching corps, designating utility player Cooper Hummel for assignment, reducing the 40-man roster to 39. Tromp, who signed a minor league deal in April and performed well at Triple-A Norfolk, is filling in as Gary Sánchez is on the IL and Adley Rutschman may miss a few days after a recent injury. Tromp’s stay in the majors could be short-lived as Rutschman might return soon, and Tromp’s out-of-options status raises the possibility of him being designated for assignment again.
