The San Diego Padres placed center fielder Jackson Merrill on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. Outfielder Oscar Gonzalez was promoted from Triple-A El Paso to fill his roster spot. Merrill had been dealing with the injury and will have time to fully recover before returning to the lineup. His IL stint was backdated to April 7, following MLB rules allowing teams to apply transactions retroactively up to three days if the player did not appear during that time. Merrill had a strong start to the season with a .378/.415/.676 batting line in 10 games before the injury.
