The Mariners are now less likely to trade Luis Castillo, as they had previously considered, due to a quiet offseason with minimal notable moves. Despite a strong 2024 season, Castillo’s performance has shown some decline in recent years. The Mariners owe Castillo nearly $70 million from 2025-27 with a vesting option for 2028 based on his elbow health. They could trade him at the deadline. J.D. Martinez, a full-time DH, hopes to play in 2025 and could be a fit for the Padres, but his market may be limited. He was a late signing last year and had a strong start before fading late in the season. Another late spring signing could be possible.
