MLB rumors: Guardians swap in new first baseman; Cardinals reject Yankees’ offer for Nolan Arenado

The Cleveland Guardians traded Josh Naylor to the Diamondbacks for a prospect and a draft pick before signing Carlos Santana to a one-year, $12 million contract. Santana, who will be in his third stint with the team, will play first base and serve as a mentor to top prospect Kyle Manzardo. At 39 years old, Santana won his first Gold Glove in 2024 and hit .238 with 23 home runs for the Twins. He performed better against left-handed pitchers than right-handed ones. The Guardians have potential platoon partners in Santana and Manzardo, while the Yankees signed Goldschmidt to a one-year deal worth $12.5 million after his worst season. Goldschmidt drew interest from multiple teams before signing with the Yankees. The Cardinals rejected a trade offer from the Yankees involving Nolan Arenado and Marcus Stroman earlier in the offseason.
