Sal Stewart of the Cincinnati Reds bolstered his National League Rookie of the Year candidacy by hitting two home runs in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies, leading to an 11-5 victory. His first home run, which tied the game at 2-2, and a second opposite-field homer marked his second career multi-home run game. With 19 home runs this season, Stewart set a franchise record for most homers by a Reds rookie before the All-Star break, surpassing Frank Robinson. He is now second in all-time home runs by a Reds rookie in the team’s first 91 games, trailing only Robinson’s 22 from 1956.
