The Tampa Bay Rays have re-signed veteran outfielder Austin Slater to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Durham after designating him for assignment earlier this month. Slater, who previously played for eight major league teams in three years, recorded a .215/.301/.308 slash line in 446 plate appearances since 2024. Although he excelled as a lefty platoon bat with the Giants, his recent performance has declined. The Rays’ current outfield includes lefty-swinging options Cedric Mullins, Victor Mesa Jr., and Chandler Simpson, alongside right-handed hitters Ryan Vilade and Jonny DeLuca.
