Catcher Sandy León has opted for free agency after being designated for assignment by Atlanta, clearing waivers, and being outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett. The 37-year-old veteran, known for his defensive skills with 34 Defensive Runs Saved, has a career batting average of .204, although he had a standout season in 2016. León initially joined Atlanta on a minor league deal but was released in April, later returning due to injuries on the team. With less need for catching depth now, León may sign a new minor league deal with Atlanta or explore other options.
