Francisco Alvarez is set to begin his rehab assignment this week, with Carlos Mendoza announcing plans for him to play Tuesday in Syracuse against the Yankees’ Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right meniscus tear on May 13 and underwent surgery on May 14. Mendoza praised Alvarez’s rapid recovery, noting his impressive progress in catching and hitting just two weeks post-surgery. This season, Alvarez has a .241 batting average with four home runs and 10 RBI over 37 games.
